Skittles Colour Experiment

 Aim:

I want to find out what happens when I put Skittles into water.

Method:

Equipment

  • Skittles
  • Petri Dish
  • Warm water
  • Beaker
  • White background
Instruction
  1. Gather all your equipment.
  2. Place eight Skittles out evenly around the outside of the Petri Dish.
  3. Get the warm water, gently put the warm water into the middle of the Petri Dish.
  4. Don't overfill the Petri Dish while putting in the warm water!!!
  5. Observe and record what happens.
Prediction:
I think I will see all the colours pop out and the Skittles will dissolve.

Results:

I saw the colours of the Skittles dissolving and spreading out to the centre. They were going to the same point where they meet and don't mix colours. The bottom of the Skittles colours was changing to white because of the water.

Hurumanu 3 | Vehicle

Hi readers, In our hurumanu one subjects we are focusing on vehicles and how they are evolving through the years. We have tasks to do in each article and we have to find the answer in the text. The first task that I did was the superbike, then the steamed powered car and how cars changed the world. All the answers were on the articles and we had to find them. There was some interesting question that we had to answer which I really enjoyed.

Here is my work:

Super Bike

By: Jane Buxton

Comprehension question:

What was the name of the first bike John Britten made at home?

The first motorbike that John Britten created was the Britten V1000/Superbike. The most surprising thing about the superbike was built in a garage in New Zealand by a man called John Britten, and it won the New Zealand Grand Prix in 1993. And the special features about the motorbike were very light and some parts are made out of carbon fibre.

How long would it take John to build a go kart? What did he build them out of?

It takes about three weeks to build the go kart for John, but everytime when he builds it they are dissimilar. He builds them by disassembling the wooden boxes out of the bike parts and the nails.

What does John have trouble with?

The most major trouble that John Britten has is reading, because he has problems with schooling from childhood.

What type of cars did John design when he was 12?

When John Britten was twelve years old he had enough money to design his first motorised go-kart and have a lot of designs with it.

How would you feel? Describe how would you feel watching a bike design by you win an international race?

I would feel very proud of myself and enthusiastic because I worked hard on the designs and the thoughts that I’d put in. I will also thank the people who helped me create the motorbike and cheered me up.

The introduction information

Original title: Superbike

New title: Lightning speed made in a garage.

What is the genre of the story?

The story is an article because it talks about what successful things he did and made in the past. And talks about the details of how he created the motorbike and answers some questions from a person.

The Author and Illustrator?

The Author of this article is Jane Buxton.

Write a short summary of a paragraph

There was this man who was surprisingly creative and built his own motorbike in a garage. He also creates different vehicles like go karts with materials from a bicycle. He explained what materials he used for the motorbike and told what other machines he used for the motorbike. He also explained the things that he built when he was younger and what designs he did.

Replaced the words but keep the meaning

Old sentence: The motor has more power because it’s designed so the air and fuel flow in easily.

New sentence: The Superbike had an additional amazing well-built power because it was truly made for the air and the fuel to run smoothly and quickly.

The Steamed Powered Car

By: Pat Quinn

The Introduction Information:

Change the title but made sure it is suitable title yet an interesting title:

The Old Coal Engine Cadillac

State what ‘Genre’ the text is? Is it a play, story article etc?

The ‘Genre’ of the text is an article, because it gives details about  how it was made and how it was worked. It gave information to what the twin brothers were thinking about which makes it an article. Also it gave information about developing the steamed powered car and the evolution as it was getting popular.

List the Author and the Illustrator of the text?

The Author of the article is Pat Quinn.

In a paragraph, write a short synopsis/review of what it is about

There were these twin brothers called the Edgard Stanley and their names were Edgar Stanley and Freelan Oscar Standley. They were thinking about creating their own cars that were friendly to the environment, small amounts of moving parts and were easy to start. The car was surprisingly faster than any petrol car due to its steam force. The car can go over the speed of 1.24 kilometres in one minute, which broke the world record in 1906. After they broke the world record they built another car that was well-built, that the speed was 240 kilometres per hour. But wistfully they hit a bump and crashed into tiny bits of pieces.

Would you buy one?

I would not buy one because it’s a waste of money and ordinary cars are much better than the steamed car, because they are much faster and easier to start. And the steamed car is super long to start; it takes about twenty minutes. Plus the ordinary cars have much durable tyres, better interiors and engines. And ordinary cars have much better technology and are increasing their durability. And the ordinary cars are also much safer to ride and have a ceiling over it.

What are the pluses and minuses to the Steam Powered Car:

Pluses:

It didn’t have a lot of many moving parts, it only had fifteen moving parts which wasn’t complicated to build.

The Steam powered car is friendly to the environment which is not polluted with fumes.

It showed people how popular the vehicle is because of the twin brother side by side matching.

If the vehicle broke down or had problems with a steam powered car you can give it back to the factory.

In the days when the steam car was invented it was fast, clean and easy to start compared to the other cars during that time.

The vehicle had a feature to stop the boiler from exploding.

To prevent the car from starting the fuel burning it used an old fashioned pilot light.

Minuses:

A big problem with the steam power car was taking a whole thirty minutes to start the engine and get it running.

Another minus to the steam powered car was, what fuel could we use to heat the water to make the steam car.

The twin brothers decline to advertise the vehicle in print.

The people who wanted to buy the vehicle had to pay the money in cash with no deposit or down payments.

The twin brothers only sold one hundred to six hundred cars during the year but increased in 1907 and sold seven hundred seventy-five cars.

The car needed to be refilled with fresh water all the time.

The vehicle could take up to twenty five minutes to build up steam to start.

Steam powered cars weren't having rumours about the car boiler could explode and kill the driver, but other manufactured cars were.

Replace the words but keep the meaning:

Old:

If anything went wrong with your stanley steamer, you took it straight back to the factory.

New:

If anything unexpected happens with the power steamed car, you’re available to take it back to the factory.

My Sport Hero

Welcome back bloggers, In our Hurumanu one subject we have been researching our own sports heroes and how they became a hero. We didn't write how good the person was, how rich they were and how famous they were, it was about them being a hero and what they've done to become a hero. I choose the one and only Stephen Curry because he is not only an NBA star but also helpful and thoughtful.

Have a think of what Stephen Curry has done during the past and what things he did to you that made you become a better person? For me, Stephen Curry made me a better person and inspired me to play basketball. He is such an amazing athlete I wish that I could be him one day. Stephen Curry made the world a better place to live in and change people to become the best version of themselves.

Here is a google drawing that I made about Stephen Curry being a hero:

Hope you learned something new and enjoyed my presentation, if you enjoy please leave a comment and I will much appreciate it.
