Hurumanu 3 | Vehicle

Hi readers, In our hurumanu one subjects we are focusing on vehicles and how they are evolving through the years. We have tasks to do in each article and we have to find the answer in the text. The first task that I did was the superbike, then the steamed powered car and how cars changed the world. All the answers were on the articles and we had to find them. There was some interesting question that we had to answer which I really enjoyed.

Here is my work:

Super Bike

By: Jane Buxton

Comprehension question:

What was the name of the first bike John Britten made at home?

The first motorbike that John Britten created was the Britten V1000/Superbike. The most surprising thing about the superbike was built in a garage in New Zealand by a man called John Britten, and it won the New Zealand Grand Prix in 1993. And the special features about the motorbike were very light and some parts are made out of carbon fibre.

How long would it take John to build a go kart? What did he build them out of?

It takes about three weeks to build the go kart for John, but everytime when he builds it they are dissimilar. He builds them by disassembling the wooden boxes out of the bike parts and the nails.

What does John have trouble with?

The most major trouble that John Britten has is reading, because he has problems with schooling from childhood.

What type of cars did John design when he was 12?

When John Britten was twelve years old he had enough money to design his first motorised go-kart and have a lot of designs with it.

How would you feel? Describe how would you feel watching a bike design by you win an international race?

I would feel very proud of myself and enthusiastic because I worked hard on the designs and the thoughts that I’d put in. I will also thank the people who helped me create the motorbike and cheered me up.

The introduction information

Original title: Superbike

New title: Lightning speed made in a garage.

What is the genre of the story?

The story is an article because it talks about what successful things he did and made in the past. And talks about the details of how he created the motorbike and answers some questions from a person.

The Author and Illustrator?

The Author of this article is Jane Buxton.

Write a short summary of a paragraph

There was this man who was surprisingly creative and built his own motorbike in a garage. He also creates different vehicles like go karts with materials from a bicycle. He explained what materials he used for the motorbike and told what other machines he used for the motorbike. He also explained the things that he built when he was younger and what designs he did.

Replaced the words but keep the meaning

Old sentence: The motor has more power because it’s designed so the air and fuel flow in easily.

New sentence: The Superbike had an additional amazing well-built power because it was truly made for the air and the fuel to run smoothly and quickly.

The Steamed Powered Car

By: Pat Quinn

The Introduction Information:

Change the title but made sure it is suitable title yet an interesting title:

The Old Coal Engine Cadillac

State what ‘Genre’ the text is? Is it a play, story article etc?

The ‘Genre’ of the text is an article, because it gives details about  how it was made and how it was worked. It gave information to what the twin brothers were thinking about which makes it an article. Also it gave information about developing the steamed powered car and the evolution as it was getting popular.

List the Author and the Illustrator of the text?

The Author of the article is Pat Quinn.

In a paragraph, write a short synopsis/review of what it is about

There were these twin brothers called the Edgard Stanley and their names were Edgar Stanley and Freelan Oscar Standley. They were thinking about creating their own cars that were friendly to the environment, small amounts of moving parts and were easy to start. The car was surprisingly faster than any petrol car due to its steam force. The car can go over the speed of 1.24 kilometres in one minute, which broke the world record in 1906. After they broke the world record they built another car that was well-built, that the speed was 240 kilometres per hour. But wistfully they hit a bump and crashed into tiny bits of pieces.

Would you buy one?

I would not buy one because it’s a waste of money and ordinary cars are much better than the steamed car, because they are much faster and easier to start. And the steamed car is super long to start; it takes about twenty minutes. Plus the ordinary cars have much durable tyres, better interiors and engines. And ordinary cars have much better technology and are increasing their durability. And the ordinary cars are also much safer to ride and have a ceiling over it.

What are the pluses and minuses to the Steam Powered Car:

Pluses:

It didn’t have a lot of many moving parts, it only had fifteen moving parts which wasn’t complicated to build.

The Steam powered car is friendly to the environment which is not polluted with fumes.

It showed people how popular the vehicle is because of the twin brother side by side matching.

If the vehicle broke down or had problems with a steam powered car you can give it back to the factory.

In the days when the steam car was invented it was fast, clean and easy to start compared to the other cars during that time.

The vehicle had a feature to stop the boiler from exploding.

To prevent the car from starting the fuel burning it used an old fashioned pilot light.

Minuses:

A big problem with the steam power car was taking a whole thirty minutes to start the engine and get it running.

Another minus to the steam powered car was, what fuel could we use to heat the water to make the steam car.

The twin brothers decline to advertise the vehicle in print.

The people who wanted to buy the vehicle had to pay the money in cash with no deposit or down payments.

The twin brothers only sold one hundred to six hundred cars during the year but increased in 1907 and sold seven hundred seventy-five cars.

The car needed to be refilled with fresh water all the time.

The vehicle could take up to twenty five minutes to build up steam to start.

Steam powered cars weren't having rumours about the car boiler could explode and kill the driver, but other manufactured cars were.

Replace the words but keep the meaning:

Old:

If anything went wrong with your stanley steamer, you took it straight back to the factory.

New:

If anything unexpected happens with the power steamed car, you’re available to take it back to the factory.

How Cars Changed The World

By: Bronwen Wall

The introduction information:

Change the title but make sure it is still a suitable title:

How Cars Evolving For The Future.

What ‘Genre’ the text is? Is it a play, story, article?

The text of the story is an article.

List the Author of the text?

The Author of the article is Bronwen Wall.

In a paragraph write a short summary of what the article is about:

The story was about cars compared to other vehicles in New Zealand, and the other features they have. The article tells about how the first car accidently happened in New Zealand and people building their own vehicle. The text shows how the cars were evolving through the years and what troubles they had with it. And they also include how animals affect the vehicles and help the humans.

Replace the words but keep the meaning:

Old:

One of the cars was small, with a top speed of sixteen kilometers per hour.

New:

One of the vehicles was tiny, with a maximum speed of sixteen kilometers per hour.

My Sport Hero

Welcome back bloggers, In our Hurumanu one subject we have been researching our own sports heroes and how they became a hero. We didn't write how good the person was, how rich they were and how famous they were, it was about them being a hero and what they've done to become a hero. I choose the one and only Stephen Curry because he is not only an NBA star but also helpful and thoughtful.

Have a think of what Stephen Curry has done during the past and what things he did to you that made you become a better person? For me, Stephen Curry made me a better person and inspired me to play basketball. He is such an amazing athlete I wish that I could be him one day. Stephen Curry made the world a better place to live in and change people to become the best version of themselves.

Here is a google drawing that I made about Stephen Curry being a hero:

Hope you learned something new and enjoyed my presentation, if you enjoy please leave a comment and I will much appreciate it.

Hur 1 Earthquake Heroes!

Hi readers. In our Hurumanu one subject, we have been researching and reading articles about the Earthquake in Christchurch. The massive earthquake in Christchurch was in 2011which destroyed a huge amount of damage to the Cathedral building and some other buildings near it. It happened on February 22 at 12:51 pm, it happened to be a 6.3 magnitude earthquake which is super strong and brutal. There were over one hundred and seventy thousands buildings that got destroyed and demolished by the 6.3 magnitude earthquake. And lots of fire-fighters, police officers, St Johns and S.A.V which stand for Student Valuntered Army. And also there were ordinary people who helped people out of their buildings who are very thoughtful and committed. Thanks to them which some of them received a bravery award for doing the job successfully.

we had some few interesting questions to research which made it really enjoyable because I was learning something new. And I placed my work to a google drawing which made it more attractive and much more creative. Then I added some pictures, changed the backgrounds and made the fonts different so that the page won't look blank.

Here is my DLO:

Thank you guys so much for reading my blog post and I hope I didn't waste any of your time:)

Anne Frank | House tour

Welcome back to my blog. This is a blog post that I forgot to published last year! 'But here it is'.

In today's blog post, I will be showing you a link of Anne Frank's house and you can have a tour, but before I show you I will summarise the story a little bit and tell you what I learned.

So the main reason why Anne Frank and her family is in hiding in the annexe because Margot (Anne sister) got called up by labour camp, which her family didn't believe that it was about work so they decided to go to hiding in the annexe. There were also problems that Anne face when in hiding and in war, like Anne Frank can't sleep every night because of all the aircraft and the gunshots going on every night. There were also people having arguments with each other and small things like tables. She was also living with the same person every second which gets her annoyed. She also was having some troubles because she couldn't go outside and can't see the sun because if she is willing to go outside they might get caught by the German soldiers, and they also block their windows with black curtains. There were a lot of problems that Anne was facing in the annexe.

Anne Frank and her family were hiding for almost two years and one month which is seven hundred and sixty-one days. Imagine that, compare that to your lockdown and think about how much freedom you had. And the lockdown wasn't really long for us, but imagine you had a lockdown for two years, can't go outside, can't see the light and living with the same person every day.

Do you think you enjoyed the book? I, of course, did enjoy the book because of its non-fiction story and I like non-fiction books rather than fiction books. Another reason why I like the book is because of how Anne told how she feels in the place during world war 2 and explained all the problems she went through with her family. The book is so interesting and detailed because I can imagine what's happening during the situation that Anne and her family faced.

what I learned:

I learned plenty of stuff in the Jewish religion such as celebrating Hanukkah instead of Christmas, which is celebrated with nine candles. In world war 2 they had ration books which have all the food they need to purchase and how much quantities they have to buy. Hitler doesn't like people with blond hair and blue eyes which means he wants to eliminate Jewish people because they have blue eyes and blond hair. I learned a lot of things about the concentration camp and the point of the concentration camp is to murder all the Jewish people. And Jewish also had Saint Nicholas day which they think of as Santa, because he gave money to the poor, and sacrifice his life. He also helped children by giving them presents.

Hands on Fire

Welcome back, bloggers. In our Science class, we have been doing an experiment called hands-on fire which literally means chemicals, oxygen and gas on our hands, that burns if you touch it, or even if you get close to it, it is very hot. But we didn't burn our hands, we had this substance with bubbles that protected us from the fire. And as well we had to finish it off by writing the four senses.
Senses:

What I felt?
I felt super ponderous and my heart pounding quickly as one mile per minute. And it was really hot that it was kinda burning my hands into little pieces of ashes.

What I saw?
I saw the awesome vivid fires swelling my hands up to my elbow like I was fireproof. The blazing wall fire of wall raised up really high almost the top of the ceiling. And after a few seconds, I saw the fire disappeared on my hand like thin air.

I heard?
The hot blazing fire made a fwooooosh noise when my hands were getting light up with a lighter. The bubbles were sizzling like food getting cook in a pot as I scoop it out from the container.
What it smelled like?
The bubble of gas smelled like gasoline from the petrol stations, like it was actually making you suffer and poisoned.

I hope you guys had an amazing experience reading my blog post and learned something new.

Hurumanu 1| Heroes

Welcome back, readers. In our Hurumanu one class, we are focusing on our heroes and what makes a superhero.

So our first task was to think of a representative hero that did something good for the country or just in general (Family, teachers etc) and is special to us. And the superhero that I really love is James cook because he was so intelligent that he discovered the North and the South of New Zealand while on a ship. He was so fearless that he was even discovered the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, and prove that the Terra Australis is non-existing. The attributes that make him special was exploring and discovering the world, and have resilience and commitment. He was also respectful and kind to people and sacrificed his life for the world. He died on the surface of the beach of Hawaii on February 14, 1779, and got stabbed straight to the neck of an islander. I have a massive amount of respect for him because he served his life for the world and did a lot of amazing things for the world.

And our second task was to draw our character on our books and write attributes (Descriptive words) around them.

Here is my work:

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog. Hope to see your feedbacks!

Melting ice in foam pieces

 Hello blogger,

Welcome back, in this blog post I will be sharing you an experiment that we did in our science session. And the challenge was to time how long does ice melt on foam piece. There were a lot of options but I picked a different one because I want to see how long it will take.

I was looking forward if the foam piece would melt faster than the other objects but unfortunately, it was actually the slowest, and I didn't even get to finish it because of how long it takes to melt. But I was really shocked about it because I didn't know how long it would take to melt, but I was wondering if I picked up big ice that is why maybe it melt longer.

I tried squeezing the foam and the ice together so that it will melt stronger because we were not allowed to touch the ice with our hands, only the object itself. And also I tried to compact them together but the foam wasn't big enough.

I learned that foams on ice can't actually melt faster which makes sense for me because the foam had little holes in them and how small the pieces were.
