Making biltong (Beef jerky)

Hello bloggers,

Welcome back to my blog. In this blog post, I will show you what we have been doing in hurumanu 3 aka science at school.

So in science, we have been making biltong (Beef jerky) for science experiments. The first step we did was to answer the hypothesis. Our hypothesis is about salt on our beef jerky. Basically, the hypothesis is to answer what you think the salt will do to the meat. And then use backup information to support your aim. Then we rewrite it on our own words. We needed to find a website to guide us making the biltong. We need to write the ingredients and the material we were going to use. And write our own instructions.

How we made the meat:
First, we washed our hands. Our teacher sliced the meat for us. Because if you cut your self and your touch the meat you will have an infection. Then place on the tray and put a ping of salt and sugar. After that, we tie it up on a string and hang it on a close line. The last part was to write our name on the paper with a peg to remember our meat.

Making Biltong (Beef Jerky)

Aim:
To preserve meat using salt.

Hypothesis:
I think the salt will (make the beef jerky more tasty with flavours)

Justification:
  1. Using Google, find ONE source of information that relates to your aim.
  2. Fix up the formatting so it isn't too long.
  3. Now, rewrite it in your own words.
If you add salt into your biltong it kills the blood out of your meat and kills bacteria also making it more tasty.

Method:

Materials
  •  Write all of the things you need
Materials
  • Knife.
  • Mixing bowls.
  • Peg
  • Plate
  • closeline

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds of flank steak.
  • 1 teaspoon of seasoned salt.
  • 1 teaspoon of sugars.

Instructions
 Write out the step-by-step instructions
  1. Get all your ingredients and your equipment altogether.
  2. Get the cutting board and knife then slice the steak into ⅛ inch of thick strips.  (Freeze the steak for 15-30 minutes before slicing so it’s easier to cut.)
  3. Transfer the steak strips into a large ziplock bag then put it aside on a kitchen table.
  4. Get a mixing bowl whisk all the ingredients together properly.
  5. Get the bowl with the ingredients and place the strip steak.
  6. Refrigerate the bowl bag with the steak and ingredients for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Hang it on the closeline with a peg  for about 3 days.
  8. Serve it into a beautiful plate and enjoy the taste of it.
